Weatherford Wildlife Trapper Tip of the Month:

What is a natural deterrent for mice?
Mice are destructive, and they also carry diseases, they increase their population very quickly. They cut wirings; they will enter anywhere for food or shelter.
Cayenne pepper
Same as many other pests’ mice also hate cayenne peppers smell, sprinkle it around your property. You have to sprinkle it almost twice a week, but if it rains, you have to sprinkle it again.
Peppermint oil
Soak cotton balls into peppermint oil and place in the areas where you don’t want mice to be entered. Like in the corners of cupboards, closets, and at every place, you don’t want mice should enter. But smell should be strong; therefore, use 100% pure peppermint oil and keep changing cotton balls after a few days.
Cats
Cats are great mousers. Cats love to chase mice, and this method can make your home safe from the mouse, but keep it in mind that sometimes a cat will give you a gift in the shape of a dead mouse.
Seal all possible entries
Mice can enter through very small holes, therefore make sure that all entering points are fully sealed, or you can use steel wool for keeping mouse out of your home.
Ammonia
The very strong unpleasant smell of ammonia can help you to keep the mouse away. Spray ammonia at every possible point where mice can enter like under the sink. But keep ammonia out of reach of children and pets.
Urine of predators
The smell of urine of predators (cat/dog) can deter mice, and they will assume that there is any predator near them, and they will run away from there to save their life. You can place litter near the entry points.
Try some traps
There are many traps available that can quickly help to catch mice. These traps catch mice in the box where mice can enter in a box but cannot go out. Once you catch mice through the trap, release it at least 1 mile away from your home if you don’t want it to come back at your property.
Check garage
Once they enter into your garage, they will live under the hood of your car, this airtight and safe place for them. They can do serious damage with the wiring of your car; if you have mice problem at your property, don’t forget to make your garage safe from mice.
Keep feed and trash bins tightly closed
Keep your trash bins clean and tightly closed. This can be a good place to provide them shelter and food, don’t keep a feed of your pets in an open place, store it in a closed box. The feed can attract mice, and they will enjoy free food.
Time to call a professional
If mice are fully settled in your property as earlier mentioned they can multiply very quickly, and it becomes a difficult task to get rid of them in this case you should seek help from professionals, they will control it themselves.
